I don't think either of these two recruits are "prime". However, if the coaching staff believe their value could implode their senior season they will have to decide if they want to offer them right away. Do you wait and see how they perform their senior season with the chance you could lose them to another school, or go ahead and take the chance by signing them early?

Why would we rush to sign a player early that MaxPreps projects as a D2 player? If we can't sign legitimate D1 player who can succeed in the Valley then we have a problem. Maybe this kid gets better and maybe he doesn't, but it makes no sense to sign kids on what they might be.

Acutaly, it makes perfect sense to sign a kid on potential if you are a mid-major school and it happens all the time. If a recruit's values explodes his senior season you may then have no chance to sign them. You are right when you say if a kid is being projected by a scouting service as being a "d-2" player that it would seem odd to rush in and offer them. But coaching staffs make their own assessments. As an example you will see that a lot of players George Marshall signed early for the Shockers were listed as "2 Star".

I agree. I think the fact that this player started for his high school team and was reviewed after his sophomore season bodes well for the next 2 years for him. I also think the projection is fair. It is in his favor to be projected D-2 and rise the next two season rather than get a higher projection and not play to those expectations.
