I read somewhere where Minnesota was out of scholarships as well.

My uninformed hunch is that Sam will want to be a one-and-done. As he's had to sit out first year at KU, after ASU, then he'd sit out another before he'd play again, he'll want a pretty clear route to major PT, as big a stage as he can get for '19-20', and a coaching staff that will speak for him when that year is out to get into the NBA tryout cycle. From our perspective, Walter and staff can check most of the boxes. The MVC is a better, more visable league due to the rise of Loyola, as well as the building reps of UNI and ISUr, and if we have UK on the sked in '19-20, as well as a Bahamas early season tourney, we've got a shot. X has also had a trend of loading up on talented 6-4 to 6-7 kids who can move from 2 to 3, and they are lining more of them up for '19-20, so the field will be quite competitive at X. Will be interesting to see if Sam and Walt see eye to eye.

I saw a basketball recruiting site that said he was the next Rex Chapman. In any event he’s good and with the right coach/team he will be a game changer.

This is really going to be an interesting process. It would seem Sam wants playing time....he would get plenty in Evansville. Xavier, on the other hand, is a great program and much higher profile than Evansville. I am unsure of what kind of competition he would have in earning minutes for the Musketeers. There is always the possibility he would pay his own way for a year if he choose to go to Pepperdine, who I think he would have a preference for. For the Aces I think it will come down entirely to how his conversation goes with Coach McCarty. We are all hoping the coach will raise the profile of Evansville, and I think in time he very well could. But Evansville is not a sexy choice for a 4 star player to come...been a long and dreary road for nearly two decades. The addition of Sam and with the cast of players who will be on hand for the 2019 - 20' season (plus two more scholarships to offer) could potentially rise the Aces to the top much quicker than what we could have ever hoped for.

Loyola wasn’t what I would call a sexy choice for Custer either. But he picked them and the rest is history.
