It's hard to see how a young man will fit the needs of a team. KP is a pretty amazing kid. He has all the skills we would look for in a 5, but despite interest from Creighton and others, there is a reason why Purdue may not have offered yet, and they may NOT offer. To me, he is an OUTSTANDING fit for the Aces.

I think we have as good a shot as anyone.

As to the thought that we only have one scholly for next year: yes, that is technically correct, but a LOT can happen in a season, so I'm not thinking limits on how many I recruit for next year, if I were the Aces staff. Maybe Noah, Evan, or DeJuan don't get the playing time they would like? Maybe another player doesn't fit Walt's scheme. Maybe Sam averages 24 per game, is MVC MVP, and he goes pro. Look at the MVC transfers this year. SIU loses the Beanes. Valpo has 50% turnover. Over 18 mos., Mo. St. has remade their entire roster. Lots can happen, and it does. As our program gains cred, we will see more roster changes that are simply the nature of the D1 game today. A scholly chart is good to review, but it is only a one year view of the team.

I'm not concerned about how many scholarships we have on paper. I think Walt understands that you have to have several potentials on your wish list, and I'm sure he does. However, I do believe that KP is VERY high on Walt's recruiting priorities.

I would be willing to bet there will be more than one scholarship after next season - because someone will either leave or graduate early. Personally I'd rather just have one scholarship left than have Sam or Art leave if they are as good as advertised.
8-19 .....1986
16-12 ....1987 --- MCC Champ
21-8 .....1988 --- NIT
25-6 .....1989 --- NCAA
Key point, be patient, never judge a coach on Year 1!

I don't see Sam or Art leaving after one season, simply because they've already put in a full year of sitting after transfer. That, and I think we should be very good for the foreseeable future.

Yes...I completely agree. And I have to add that while we all feel Sam is a special talent and HE IS, to think he would be a hardship draft pick after next season may be a bit of a reach. Sam has NBA aspirations that's for sure...I hope he makes it because that would have meant he had great success for UE. But the NBA is the "elite of the elite". If that were to happen I think that journey may need more than one more season of college ball.

The two players I could see leaving would be Noah, andEvan.Reason being if they graduate in 3years they could become a grad student.

I saw a pleasant world where, before anyone saw the play of 7 newcomers, no one discussed who would transfer a year from now. And then I woke up.

There are other ways to open up scholarships....like offering an upperclassman a full ride academic scholarship if they have demonstrated academic excellence.

I am hoping we can open one by doing that for a single year for next recruiting cycle (maybe someone like Noah, Evan, Art, or Sam since the 2020-2021 would be their final year of eligibility anyway). Then you can recruit two bigs.

Alternatively, if nobody wants to go the academic scholly route, then there is still a possibility to add two new bigs: one on athletic scholarship and one on academic scholarship. Possibilities for athletic scholarship bigs are well documented on this site. We may have a chance to get a big on an academic ride....Noah Hupmann. He could be a developmental big needing a first year redshirt, but going to Evansville Day School may really help him get academic money in addition to receiving a Legacy Award due to his parents graduating from UE.

These options allow you to have 14 legit D1 players while using the allowed 13 scholarships.

This is opinion on Kiyron. I have seen him play a dozen times. He is not a offensive type of a player, totally defensive. I don't believe at this point he is a Purdue caliber of a player. Now if he can develop a 15 to 18 foot jumper he could be a special player.

Totally agree with this statement. It’s great he can play defense, but you also have to score as well.
