Pat does do a good job. I do like his info.

IMHO the Evansville paper has really went down hill. I don’t think it’s even printed here anymore.
I can afford it. Just choose not to.

Has Coach Sparks signed a contract to be an Assistant Coach? This needs to be finalized to help sell recruits on a coaching staff that they expect will develop them and be mentors.

I'm hoping that this evenings "Meet Walter" event will reveal some information on assistants, and player personnel, both present, and future. If not, then I will think that all is not as it should be.

We're hoping to hear some info there...I'll share anything I hear on here this afternoon.
8-19 .....1986
16-12 ....1987 --- MCC Champ
21-8 .....1988 --- NIT
25-6 .....1989 --- NCAA
Key point, be patient, never judge a coach on Year 1!

Pat Hickey tweeted that he is hear Todd Lickliter and Matthew Graves. Those would be two pretty decent names.

Just saw a tweet from Pat stating that he’s hearing that Lickliter and Matthew Graves will be the other 2 Assistant Coaches. Those would be good hires and bring Butler backgrounds.

Graves was an assistant at Butler for a long time and just completed 5 years as the head coach at South Alabama. Maybe he can help recruit the southern states.

Wonder what happened to Sparks? If he doesn’t join the staff, that was a PR blunder to learn from and not repeat.

unless a coach brings his old staff with him, it's probably pretty common for the determination of assistants to take a few detours. First, it was McHale from EKU, then it became Commodore, one of his assts. It was Gouard, or Ragland, etc., then it moved to Sparks, now it may be Graves, who worked for Stevens at Butler, etc. You can sort of see the network of conversation, referrals, suggestions, etc. The good news in all of this is that there are pretty influential coaches who are helping Walter. Maybe they cannot come to UE themselves, for a number of reasons, but he clearly has a network that is in his corner. I think similar events will affect filling out a roster. The kids may not be who we expect, but they will hopefully be tough, hungry, and talented enough to give UE a decent first year and the foundation for several future years.
