Texas Southern wouldn't be a bad get for this late in the process. At least they made the dance last year, and Johnny Jones, the HC, has some cred. Alabama St. wouldn't be nearly as attractive. As noted, it IS a crapshoot, but it doesn't have to be if you have a decent rep and a DESIRE to be in a competitive tourney each year. Walter will make this happen, I'm confident.

Texas Southern confirmed on "blogging the bracket" as a participant in the UE-Ford tourney. One team still to be confirmed, but Alabama St. wasn't mentioned, so there's hope that the 4th team might come from another conference: SoCon, Horizon, etc.

Maybe UE, as the host school, can make the request to the tourney to play the 2 DI schools and avoid Chaminade. Then the other two DI schools can play Chaminade and us.

I don't think the Maui Classic really gives a hoot as to how the tourney is structured. On the gopurpleaces schedule, the games are only listed as Nov. 17 and 18, so it's conceivable that it won't be anything other than 2 preset games: i.e. UE vs. Tx So. and Chaminade vs. unknown D1 the first night, then UE vs. the unknown D1 and Tx. Southern vs. Chaminade the second. That would be ideal for us, esp. if the unknown D1 was a competitive, attractive team. Keep in mind that there are only about 20 teams that are not committed to a tourney at this point, and of those, there are probably 8-10 who are already committed for some kind of game that weekend, even if they may play in a Tksgiving tourney the next weekend. So, we may be underwhelmed by what we can see that weekend, and we could even see a second D2 to match up with Chaminade. I think Tx. Southern will be fine as one opponent for the Aces. Just hoping for the best.

Texas Southern isn’t a dreadful home game at all. 4 NCAA Tournaments in 5 years. Beat a Tom Izzo Final Four team recently.

On blogging the brackets, in the non bracketed games it is listed as Mississippi (College) at Auburn, and is not marked as a “waiver” game.

Looks like we will be most likely stuck with another non D-1 for the mainland event. Yay

I think they must have just updated it a few minutes ago because it now has an asterisk - saying that it is a waiver game.

Who determines what is a waiver game? If whoever put this mess together can tell what teams can play wherever, and tell Chaminade they have to play on the mainland in Evansville, In in a tournament that doesn't have anything to do with the Hawaii tournament, then why should't they be the ones to provide the teams to play in this tournament. Why does UE have to go out and find the other teams to play? The person who got us into this sham of a tournament should be fired..............................?

According to the Aces Athletic Dept. no contracts have been signed for any game in the tournament, and nothing will be released until there are four teams to participate.

Interesting that Tx. Southern is playing AT Gonzaga Nov. 10, at Iowa St. on Nov. 12, then at San Diego St. on Nov. 14. The athletic dept. may not be ready to make an announcement because they don't have the 4th team lined up for the "Maui Mainland" yet. However, since Tx. Southern is playing THREE Maui teams before the Ford tournament, they will BE here for Nov. 17-18. SWAC teams have feasted on "buy" road games for several years, and this is another example. Now, to the bigger question: who other than Chaminade and Tx. Southern will be the mysterious 4th team? There are only a few possibilities in D1. So, we should not be surprised if we play Chaminade on night and Tx. Southern the next.
