NCAA Attendance Figures

Postby E-Villan » Tue Jul 17, 2018 10:00 pm

Swiped this from the MVC board. Any of us that were around 20 years ago would have never thought we would drop below 8K, let alone 4K. This has to be an all time low for us in D-1, and probably the lowest since 1956, the year Roberts opened. This in itself was more than enough reason changes had to be made. Fortunately, it appears many are more than willing to come back. Hopefully they will give the staff the time needed to right the ship.

It is interesting to see the attendance figures. I would point out that there is a LOT of difference between games held now vs. 20 years ago. Advances with Internet, cable/satellite TV, ESPN and other regional sports stations, cell phones, Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. ... lots of technology advances, especially social media sites that didn't exist then, compete for our entertainment these days. And none of these existed back when Roberts Stadium opened. Aces games were THE social place to be back in the 60s through the 90s. I do agree that enthusiasm for the new style Coach McCarty brings to the floor should definitely increase the crowd sizes to levels we haven't seen for quite a while! Also, the athletic department is doing an excellent job with promoting and getting fans excited!

I am pretty sure Loyola’s attendance number will go way up this year. Making a run like that solves a lot of your attendance woes. I believe that our attendance will be up substantially too! Exciting times are ahead! Go Aces.

It was indeed a record low attendance year for the Aces. I agree, I would have never believed 20 years ago that would have happened in Evansville. No matter if anyone supported Marty or not those figures clearly cried out that changes had to be made.

Biggest jumps in attendance this year I believe will come from the Aces, Mo-State, and Loyola.

i believe we can thank Hockey for us not having Saturday night game's, i believe Saturday night games would boost tickets 700 to a 1000 per games played. family's with kids have ball games and other kid activity's during the day.

I prefer Saturday afternoon to Saturday evening. I will go to the games either way. When you don't own the building and have TV contracts to deal with as well as a conference that dictates schedules it is very difficult to do everything you want.

Not doubting you but curious why you think that Missouri State’s attendance will jump. Are they supposed to be really good?

MO - State, like Evansville, made a much needed coaching change. Dana Ford is a former assistant to Greg Marshall has created a lot of excitement in Sprinfield. They have a solid fan base.
