How does this cycle end

Postby 6th man » Fri Jan 24, 2014 3:11 pm

2014-15
1 senior
4 juniors assuming Rokas (RS)
7 sophmores
1 freshman (Sawvell scholarship)

2015-16

4 Seniors
7 Juniors
1 Sophomore
1 Freshman Moore scholarship

2016-17

7 Seniors
1 Junior
1 Sophmore
4 Freshman

2017-18

1 SR
1 JR
4 SO
7 Fr

Back to today's situation young and rebuilding again. Jucos doesn't correct the situation unless some of the freshmen from the 2013-14 class leave. At least that's my take of it

I don't think Rokas will redshirt. But even then, you're right, it's a problem.

Rokas hasn't played or even suited up for a game. I thought it was a given that he was redshirting.

I guess at the end of 2016-17 you find 3-4 Juco/transfers to get the imbalance out of the recruiting class. That could be a rough year with the Juco learning the system quickly. Finding that many is the challenge. If you held 1 or two out or red shirt them till the next year, it would ease the imbalance but a short bench

JUCOs.

JUCOs each year.

Heavy JUCO some years (2)

Light JUCOs some years (0-1)

No we can't. There are already threads saying we can't speak of such things.

It started quite some time ago...

Here's the way I remember it:
Merfeld's last year was a senior laden year ... 3 or 4 on the team.
When Merfeld was let go, some of his recruits decided to go elsewhere.
Marty started his D1 career with 8 scholarship players. He went out and got a couple of freshmen and a couple of jucos to fill out the 2007-08 squad.

In 08, there was one senior, a player from North Posey High who never played his senior year due to a knee (?) injury.
In 09, you had a bunch of seniors... Holsinger, Ely, Gregory and Garner.

So, at this time, UE had classes that were basically 4-1-4-3. Not 'balanced', but not as lopsided as the current classes.

That more or less held up, until last year when Jahr and Nelson moved on, and were replaced by freshmen instead of Jucos.

I have not seen anything to indicate that he was. Until I do, I'll be leaving his scholarship in the "available 2015" column.

Seems like a no-brainer from an athletics standpoint, but it may be that he intends to graduate in four years and move on.
