Game Thread: Loyola at Evansville

Postby pafan » Mon Jan 07, 2019 8:29 pm

Note later start time: 7pm tip
(Due to national television)

TV: CBS Sports Network
Radio: Purple Aces Sports Network, flagship 107.1 WJPS

I think Loyola is the overwhelming favorite to win the MVC right now. Although they have had a couple of significant injuries, the Ramblers are 2-0. They dismantled Indiana State at home, and won fairly convincingly over Drake at the Knapp.

My storyline: What Cameron Krutweg will be able to do against the Aces in the middle. He's a key part of Loyola's offense, making layups at an outstanding rate (67%), and kicking the ball out like very few MVC centers can.

Through two games, Krutweg is the leading assist-maker in the MVC, and #4 in FG% (minimum 10 attempts). Loyola players hold four of the top 5 field goal percentages in the league in the early going.

Gonna be a tough game for us home or away. We cannot afford to get off to a slow start. DC needs to take it to them as he will have a size/weight advantage imho.

I am hopeful this will be the last year for a long time that Loyola will be a decided favorite against our Aces in games played at any location.

Krutwig, and Dainius are the same height, but Dainius is listed at 240, and Krutwig is a lot better at what counts. Rebounding, and scoring.

And take away Krutwig and the Ramblers aren't in the Final Four. It will be a mismatch in the post and Krutwig is just a sophomore.

Krutwig, lost more than just a few lbs over the summer.
Changed up his diet and turned a lot of his Freshman bulk into lean muscle mass.
Runs the floor at bit better and doesn't tire as fast.
If he doesn't have to push DC around a lot, he'll stay fresh & could dominate the game. ACES need to keep DC on the floor, as much as possible. Make Krutwig work for his stats.

If I remember right D.C. held him in check last year....I feel like Loyola will win by 10 or more, but if we can somehow win this game I think we will finish top 6, just my gut telling me that.

I agree

To me there are three keys:
1. Limit open three point shots
2. Don't turn the ball over
3. Play at a faster pace

Do those three things, we can win this game.
8-19 .....1986
16-12 ....1987 --- MCC Champ
21-8 .....1988 --- NIT
25-6 .....1989 --- NCAA
Key point, be patient, never judge a coach on Year 1!

Last year Krutwig had 6 points in each game against us, 0 rebounds game 1 and 3 rebounds game 2.

Loyola board. Pretty informative opening post.

We lead the series with them 27-20. I would have thought there was more games than that.
