This may not be the end and we may never find out what led to these defections, but this is not good for the school or the conference. Valpo is a fine academic school and the Valley is a great athletic conference. Over time all will be good and this will be forgotten.

Add a 5th one, center Jaume Sorolla. He is looking to be a grad transfer, which seems to be a thing these days.

It's easy to pile on and blame Lottich, but it could very well be nothing more than a domino effect. 1 or 2 transfers, and suddenly everyone else feels the need to get out. Not sure where the blame is, but there is clearly a dumpster engulfed up north. With their resources and facilities, this could take years to untangle. I like Valpo and hope they pull this out, but I think it is safe to say Drake night in St. Louis will be known as Valpo night for years to come.

Butler fans seem to be thrilled with Smits' decision but they don't know that Sorolla received more PT late in the season.

I would have passed on Smitts . Only as a grad transfer with no other prospects would I bring him on.

His dad was a fan favorite and perennial All-Star with the Pacers. I'm sure that factored into Butler's decision. Beside how often can you add a 7 foot plus player, not need to develop him, and only use up one year of a scholarship. Ten to 15 minutes playing time a game, 5-6 points, and filling up the middle on defense may get Butler an extra win or two.
