Illinois State beat Hawaii "last night" 71-45 and plays San Francisco tonight on ESPN2 at 9 CST in what I believe is the final game of the Diamond Head Classic. All games are available as replays on ESPN3 as well if you can't watch it live and want to use it as a scouting opportunity. Illinois State is an 8 point favorite over San Fran.

As a point of reference, I expect Evansville to be about a 10-point underdog to Illinois State on the road.

Illinois State missed three straight three pointers but kept getting the offensive rebounds until they made the fourth three pointer to get within 61-55 with 45 seconds left.

This seems the best place to put this.

MVC Roundtable: Early surprises, re-ranking teams, MVP candidates

Loyola and Evansville are the two teams the MVC sports writers would rank higher if the MVC poll was taken today. Jaylon Brown also mentioned in the top five for possible player of the year candidates.

Shockers win by 8 at Indiana State..game close and tied at half, Shockers pulled away down the stretch and were never behind in the 2nd half.

Summary..Shockers very young but also long and athletic as usual. Indiana State decent as always especially at home.

UNI could not hit a shot in first have falling behind by 24 to Bears in Iowa..Bears up now only 5 with five minutes to go as they have been trying to hold on as UNI is making their patented run. This one will go down to the wire.

Summary..Bears more athletic, UNI more experienced but they look a step slow at many positions vs the Bears. UNI not hitting a shot in first have and having to try to come from behind the entire game and they may run out of time.

UNI never up in the game, looked a step slow and fell at home to the Bears by 4. Not sure what to make of this game..UNI a bit overrated, Bears a hair underrated or just a matter of UNI not hitting shots in the first half and digging too deep a hole like we did vs UNI last year in the conference tournament? Either way, it's going to be an interesting year in The Valley.

Anyone else shocked to see Loyola at 0 - 2 in conference play?
