Yes and No.
Yes in that they lost at Drake who I believe was picked last in the conference
No in that Illinois State beat them at Loyola

I think Illinois State could beat Wichita this year because of their experience and guard play. I could be wrong, but I have seen both teams play a few times and even though Wichita is long and athletic they are very young and not near the level or athleticism at guard compared to Illnois State who seems to be to be tougher with the experience edge and desire to overcome one of their big rivals in the Shockers.

We will know soon enough....Mark your calendars..January 14th Shockers at Illinois State on ESPN2 at 7pm after our 1pm home matchup vs SIU.

Yes, most definitely Illinois State will give WSU all they can handle. Nice balance of inside and outside players who are very athletic.
Look forward to playing them again at the Ford Center. We'll be better prepared - we better be.

Missouri State is giving Illinois State all it can handle. 62 all with a minute left. Missouri State has made 13 three-pointers. Missouri State has some lots of good shooters. Will be a tough matchup for Evansville.

Most really good teams, in the MVC or any conference, shoot the 3 well.....I don't see any future hopes for UE to incorporate the 3 into our offense as long as Marty is here. He just doesn't seem to value it as part of our offense....I do not understand this lack of building a shooters' base of 3-point shooting among several of our guys. It seems that Marty is all about the in-the-paint game, even with our lack of good inside play. I get the feeling that outside shooters are reluctant to shoot for fear of a miss and thus, Marty's wrath. Can't gain confidence that way!

Per Daniel Allar:

Could MVC be a two-bid league? ESPN's Joe Lunardi has Illinois State as an 11 seed, Wichita State as a 12 in 'First Four' game

Illinois State is really missing their power forward and with Fehn (sp?) in early foul trouble, they had no size on the floor to be able to compete. Plus, Shockers were out for revenge from their loss at Illinois State a few weeks ago. What is going to be interesting if these two teams meet in the finals in St Louis which is probable, would both teams make the Big Dance or would we be a one bid conference this year. Hope two teams go as always as it helps our Aces in the pool of money coming to the conference.

Felt like Wichita was going to win this one but very shocked by the final score even with one of Redbirds big 3 missing because of the talent they have wake up call to the Redbirds.

Illinois state sneaks by Missouri State 67 to 66 Missouri State had chances to win but couldn't make a play at the end and missed some free throws.
