2017 OH PF Evan Kuhlman

Postby Austin Ace » Thu Aug 11, 2016 5:10 pm

6' 6" power forward with eight offers from mainly what I would consider lower DI schools.

Just watched the first three minutes of the clip below and he is definitely a three-point shooter. I would not say that he has a quick release but he certainly starts his shooting motion as soon as he catches the ball. From the limited "tape" that I watched I would classify him as a shooting forward and not a power forward. Again I didn't watch the whole video; but will try to watch it later.

Thanks for sharing.

A couple things I noticed.
1. Great shooter, not a creator off the dribble, but definitely a good catch and shoot player
2. Looked like he was capable of trapping the PG on the high screen and roll which is good because Simmons likes to switch screens.
3. Good passer and appeared to have good awareness and anticipation.

Reminds me of a much bigger Adam Wing.

The opposing coach's reaction around the :58 second - 1:00 mark when he was left open on the three was pretty funny.
Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.

I think Tom and Austin's assessment of this player is the same as mine. Definitely not getting a lot of attention from d-1 schools and I can understand that some. But tall 3 point dead eye shooters have been diffiicult kids to corral for the Aces. To me he looks like a guy that if you put him on the floor with some good players he could make the other team pay. With 6 scholarships to give I would take a gamble On him.

Very consistent follow thru on his 3 point shot. Thought he used his hands too much to get free under the basket. His awareness when passing was very good. No vertical at all. Overall, would look good in purple.

Here is a link to his stats: http://preps.cincinnati.com/BasketballBoys/TeamStats?schoolid=4&schoolyear=2015&school=SportsDesk

The things that stand out to me are:

    45.3% on 3 pointers
    34 of 75 on 3 pointers (that is 1.3 makes a game);
for reference, that is more than anyone on last year's team except for DJ who made 1.7 a game
29 steals is not to shabby (over one a game)
12.2 ppt, 5.3 rpm and 1.9 apg are solid stats but not over impressive either.

After watching the entire video I would agree with the statement earlier that he is a slightly taller version of Adam Wing. That is, he can shot the three; seems to have a high basketball IQ; he probably would be utilized as a power forward as I am not sure if he is quick enough to consistently match up at the 3 spot. All in all a solid smart player that may not be as athletically gifted as some other D1 players. I think his 3-point accuracy (esp. for a 6-6 PF type and the matchup issues that could create) is his most intriguing quality that he brings to the table.

All very good points and thanks for sharing his stats. I personally am unsure where he would be best suited...3 or a 4??? But I love his shot and basketball IQ. He definetly could cause matchup problems against some teams. How much he might play might depend if he can defend or not

I completely agree with you and the other posts. I would love to see us get him.

He is also a very good volleyball player for Lakota East. 1st Team all conference on an undefeated ( in conference) team as a Junior. Led the conference in kill shots. Which means he has good timing and eye/hand skills. Listed on Max preps for volleyball at 6-7 210. Got close friends in the LE sports family, but in different sports.....trying to find out more.

Having good friends at a school that is recruiting you can only be a plus..particularly a school that is graduating 6 seniors. I think Aces fans should expect a visit sometime soon.
