A good read

“It’s the players and the product on the floor that will lead to a better environment at games.”

I can’t wait for the season!

Coached mentioned DeAndre in this article. I think the staff thinks extremely high of him. Could be such a big time player down the road for us.

“What I love about DeAndre (is) he’s 6-foot-9 (and) can play the 1-2-3-4 positions,” McCarty said. “You can put him anywhere on the floor. … I told him the thing I like about you is you share the basketball. He’s a talented kid, can do a lot of things, but he really likes to pass the ball.”

Who would have ever thought we would have a 6’9 player who can handle the ball! It is a new day for the Aces!

A very exciting time to be an Aces fan and yes DeAndre should be an exciting player to watch next year.

However, I did have a question about this statement in the article:

McCarty has ordered iPads for each of his players and coaches.

I'm sure they have done their due diligence and this is ok from an NCAA compliance standpoint; however, it is a little bit of a head scratcher on why this is okay and so many other "gifts" are violations. I presume it is because it is "basketball or team related". At least that is my best guess. Anybody more knowledgeable on why this is ok?

Go Aces!!!

The more correct statement should be that the university or the athletic department purchased these tools for the team. Items that P-5 schools have and not gifts in the real sense.

So maybe these are team IPads that they can check out from the basketball facility and are not actually their own IPads?

That makes more sense, but the quote above makes it sound like it was their own IPad - probably just semantics.

They'd have to be issued and controlled by the university. It stated about some specific software for player and coaches use. I doubt they keep them after eligibility is exhausted.

Fair point, poor wording on my part. But yes, definitely UE owned.

No problem, I was just trying to make sure I understood how they were all getting IPads. :)

I really appreciate all of your work on keeping us updated with the latest Aces updates.

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend.
