Game Times

Postby Tom Servo » Fri Oct 05, 2018 8:44 am

All weeknight games are apparently starting at 6:00 PM this year???? Who came up with that idea, someone without a job? I hope it's a typo because that is not a good idea.

Mark Spencer communicated the 6 PM start time for week night games at the Caravan gathering in Newburgh. They are trying to make the week night games more appealing to families with younger school age children. The games should be over by 8 PM and the kids can get to bed earlier and be ready for school the next morning.

Thanks for confirming. I figured it would be something like that...

A lot of people have jobs where they have to work till 6:00 PM or later...that is my concern.

Not much to lose given the horrible attendance on Tuesday and Wednesday night games the last several seasons. I probably would have gone for a 6:30 tipoff, but c'est la vie.

And a lot of parents adjust their schedules to get to their children's sporting events on weeknights and doctor's appointments during school hours. If parents can adjust their busy days...then anybody can go to work early, work thru lunch, or work longer another day if they want to get to an Aces game.

I don't think this will even favor parents with kids. Most families, both parents work, so to get off work, pick up the kids, and get downtown by 6PM will be an inconvenience to many families..not to mention any kids that have after school activities. Thinking back when my kids were young, we would have skipped any 6PM game as it would have been impossible.

I grew up going to Aces games with 7:05 starts, and the stadium was filled. I am confident kids have later or more lax bedtimes now than we did in the 70's.

As a new season ticket holder, it upsets me because those are games I am now going to have to struggle with to get to before halftime. I think you will deter far more than will be enticed with this start time. Probably should have tested it with a game or two.

I used to begin work at 9 P.M. and only saw the first half of every weekday game. Life is a struggle but I'd rather see half of an uptempo game than all of a Marty traffic jam game. For every fan that can't get there by 6 there may be another who couldn't stay until 9. We will just have to adjust.

A lot of people who work at factory's don't have the options to work thru lunch or go in early in the real world you don't set your hours to work the company's tell's you what your working hours are and older people who have handicap plates that park in front of the civic center cant park there until 6pm after they are closed

This is the first negative this off season. 6pm a horrible starting time. 6:30 would have been a good compromise. This will have a bad impact.
