NCAA NET Rankings

Postby E-Villan » Tue Nov 27, 2018 1:14 pm

Here is a link the NCAA NET Rankings, which are going to be used instead of RPI. Still very early in the season, and a lot of weight is on strength of early schedule, but interesting nonetheless. Valley rankings as of today:

89 Bradley
124 Loyola
138 Indiana St
143 Southern Illinois
159 Evansville
175 Drake
176 Illinois State
183 Missouri State
252 UNI
267 Valpo

Others of interest
11 Belmont
72 Murray
88 Xavier
94 Ball St
274 Wyoming

Not a bad plan at NC State, looking at their schedule. 12 of their first 13 games at home,

I will take it, I bet we wouldn't have been any better without a coaching change, in fact I bet we would have been worse. Marty's team wouldn't have beat Texas Southern in my opinion.

The interesting thing is that the NCAA is keeping the formula to the NET rankings a secret. Keep everyone guessing about how to manipulate it with creative scheduling while still stacking the deck against mid-majors. They will be keeping the 'quadrant wins' system but using the NET instead of RPI.

Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353

It will be tough for a Valley team to ever get enough quality wins under the system to be an at-large. Currently the best a Valley team could do would be TWO quadrant 2 wins (win at Bradley or Loyola). Meanwhile in the Big Ten, the worst team - Illinois is currently 116. Which means EVERY team that plays at Illinois in the Big Ten regular season has a chance to pick up a quality win.

Another point - we had to schedule @ Illinois, @Xavier, and @ Ball St to get 3 chances at a win. Big Ten schools have 9 built into their conference schedule already (technically more, depending on who they play at home).
