I'm probably wrong to underestimate the power of the almighty dollar, but IMHO, Moser will stay at Loyola, with a pretty good bump in salary and a contract that will stretch for 10 years, guaranteed (I think he's already signed thru '26). It won't be the $$s that St. John's will offer, but the NY drama isn't worth 2X the money. Loyola has enough Alumni that they will empty the pocketbook for Porter. He won't get a Greg Marshall number (which I've always thought was ridiculous), but he'll be among the top tier in all of Mid-major basketball. If they give him a $300k-400k bump above his current comp., he's already earned it from all the national press they received from the final 4.

St. John's will not be a cakewalk, and there will be a very short grace period. The guy who takes this job will need a very thick skin.

Jon Rothstein confirmed he's staying at Loyola on Twitter.

I updated the thread title with that update, so as not to worry anyone who stumbles in this evening.

What a mess St. John's has on their hands. Mullin "resigned" last week, apparently due to a lot of conflict within the athletic department, and tomorrow is the first day of the signing period. If SJU hires an HC from another program, then THAT program is scrambling. At least Mullin went out gracefully and released a public statement showing gratitude to and support for his alma mater.

Given the circumstances, I would not be shocked if they hired Pitino. Apparently he has reached out to them.

Moser was making $900k according to the Trib. He likely got a 25-30% bump as they are rewriting his contract. He deserves it; a class guy who doesn't need the NYC hassle.

The Pitino idea wouldn't surprise me at all, if they can figure out a way to spin it. Rick's record of kids going NBA would appeal to recruits whose only thought is to go pro. He'd also come at a bargain entry price, no buy-out, and with thick skin to handle the NY circus.

I'm not a Pitino fan, but he'll eventually get a gig, and the St. Johns people appear to be pretty desperate. They want a "name." Cluess may be the logical backup, and he might get this job, but don't be surprised if Rick comes "home."

Very Glad Porter is staying. He is a Chicago guy and has a started a great culture at Loyola. He has a great salary already and is in a place where he is very comfortable. Why leave whey you are already home.

Cluess turned them down. St. John’s is now officially a dumpster fire.
